I have had my 35th ANC for almost 3 years now BUT due to health problems the last few years the car has been neglected (along with my others...sob )

However I found this site and I was curious to see what color the seat belts were in these cars...

The reason I ask as I have seen Black and I have seen White...BUT mine are grey...My car is REAL (have documentation from the museum)  and I just confused...

My car however did NOT have a plaque on the console between the seats I did find the emblem for the Plaque (in Canada) and had one made locally but of course had to guess what the car number was lol   It looks fine although not even close to what a real one looked like which is the way I wanted it ...   BUT if anyone has a plaque I sure would be willing to buy a real one

Welcome Bob327 to the Forum.
In answer to your question, they are white. You should be able to contact GM with your VIN Number, and possibly find out what you original number was. Do you have the embossed 35th Anniversary head rests, badges etc. Look under your console lid and look for the following codes: B18, B57, and Z01? If so then she is genuine.

White makes sense and Black would also... Mine are Grey which sure makes no sense to me however.

I have the build sheet as well as the the original window sticker that I got from the museum (had them laminated) which proves the car is real... The only thing missing on the car was  the console plaque.. every emblem etc is correct paint correct the only discrepancy I have found is the car came with both tops...the glass top was blue...

I only have one top and its a bronze glass top plus the frame of the top is white not black..
...  I know I have the wrong top !   not a big deal

Regarding getting the actual "car number"... LOL... That is impossible ...I swear they must ave had 2050 plaques in a parts bin and the the assembly line worker must have just reached in and pulled one out at random...

My cars Vin ends in 115082

I have researched  and verified the following Vins/Car numbers and found the following

Car number 387 vin number was 115041
Car number 532 vin number was 115061   (way out of sequence)
Car number 406 vin nymber was 115102
Car number 419 vin number was 115136
Car number 498 vin number was 115158

115171 was car 601
115179 was car 642
115181 was car 784  (again way off)
115186 was car 716
115203 was car 760
BUT car 115252 was car 628

Its sure not important to me BUT I admit it bugs me a little about the Grey seat belts however since I have only seen white belts and black belts ..In fact I made a comment years ago at Carlisle when the 35th Registry had their own parking area in the fun field about the seat belts Little did I know at the time that I would own one of these cars...

I couldn't find your vin number in this data base, but there is some interesting stuff here to look at. You may want to contact the owner of this site as he has been trying to keep this stuff up to date. Just a thought and here for you if you care:

Pull the bottom belt out all the way. There's a sticker with big letters/numbers. That's the date code for the belt.  The first digits are week produced, the second set year. The meaning of the letter is unknown. Most 88-89 belts are "L".

There was an extensive seat belt recall in the early 90's for 84-90 seat belts.  Many belts were replaced under this campaign.  My 88 had both belts replaced in 1995. This may explain the gray colored belts. Whatever the original color was, that color wasn't available (white) for the recall, and the gray was substituted.

Or the original belts malfunctioned. They tended to lock up and become unusable. It was a real problem, not just a 'could be' deal. Perhaps a subsequent owner had the opriginal belts malfunction, after the recall campaign expired (contrary to popular myth, campaigns DO have expiration dates) and all he coul obtain for replacements were gray.

There's some ideas as an explanation as to how your car has what it has. It's 25 years old, and you've only had it two of those. Shit happens to cars.

Well the recall on the belts I did not know about....so I guess I'll check out if the car was one of the cars  that had them replaced... Maybe just maybe GM has that information...

Brian... That web site I had been a great help to me...in fact that is where I purchased the very small emblem that goes on the plaque.. BTW the site is not being updated that I know of  I sent my information in a few YEARS ago and as you noted my car is still not listed...  no big deal...

Thanks guys... BUT the bottom line is I have always liked the 35th...and that fact was well known to most of the "Vette Boys in several Corvette Clubs in this area But I was still surprised when I got a Cold call from a seller who told me he heard thru the grape vine that I liked  the 35th and he had one he needed to sell ...

It was mine the next day !

Not a perfect car but nice enough that it puts a smile on my face...and I'm happy

I would be curious to know the date codes on the existing belts.

I looked at my microfiche. It has a chart of "seat belt usage" by model year,  Y07 or Y67, and the interior code color with the corresponding seat belt color.  Look at your build sheet or SPID (the RPO's decal on the center console lid). Near the end you will find an RPO with two integers followed by "I".  This is the Interior color code. 11I = white, 19I = black, and 90I is grey.

Look at the codes, and you'll know what color it was originally equipped with.
Look at the date code and you may be able to discern when they were replaced.

Dave:

Thanks..... I will go out to the car today...I store the laminated build sheet and window sticker in my Desk and I just looked at both of them and can not find the coding you described on either ...
Just in case I lose my mind and wanted to change the seat belts I looked last night and yes I can buy them ...BUT not in White...heck every other color is available for about $280.00 lol . I doubt that I would do that especially if the original belts were replaced with the grey because of the recall after the recall

Huh. I don't know what to make of this. Are you by chance color blind?

10126644 is the P/N for a production, passenger side, WHITE coupe seat belt.

09L88 is a belt produced in the first few days of March, 1988. The "L" is correct for original 88-89 belts.

I don't know what the "model number" denotes.

Look at your build sheet again. On the far right side, in the middle big field, there will be the codes that begin with 1's, 2's, etc.  You should find 113 (white leather seats) 11I (eye) white interior trim, and 40x(x= U or L, or both) and 41U for the white and black exterior. I'm 99% certain you have 11eye for white interior trim.

I don't know your production date, (on the door jamb certification sticker) but your VIN of 15082 is very likely to be at least March or April of 1988. So the 1st week March belt date is fine. It precedes the assembly date of the car.

Based on what you present, I conclude that the Passenger belt in your car is the one installed by Bowling Green Assembly, and it should be white in color.

From the build sheet (which I got from the Museum) the actual build date was (scheduled) for March 21st

The codes and the explanation in the right hand column read

Z01   (35th Anniv Pk)
111   (white interior)
113   (White leather)
24S   (Roof Clear Blue)    ...mine happens to be bronze however...
*40U White (the * is there and proceeds the 4 ??? no clue what it means
41L

You most likely are correct that the belts should be white ...I just can't find any reason why they are grey

You have have been a big help .. THANK YOU !
