I just bought a1985 c4 corvette. The car is in bad need of tlc it has been sitting for about 6 years the gas tank is at least Half full, I removed the sending unit from the tank, I need to empty it and remove it. At this point I think it needs to be replaced as well as the sending unit. Does anyone know how to Remove the tank and can you explained it to me? Do I just need to remove the back bumper to gain access to be able to remove it? Thanks for any replies Terry

I would suggest that you find someone that has, or buy a copy of, the service manuals (red cover copies only, 2 books).  Try the big auction site, our site vendors or post up here, someone my have a set for sale (or rent)  Sounds like you have a few things that need attention and having the manuals will make your life so much easier.  I don't have mine at work, maybe someone can give you a quicker answer if they have theirs handy.
Found this on a quick search of the internet:
My manual for my 88 says: rmv batt. grd. cable, drain fuel tank, rmv fuel tank filler dr, rmv fuel tankfiller neck hsng and drain hose, disc all hoses and elec. conn, rmv license plate to gain access to fascia impact bar bolts, rmv 2 carriage bolts, raise vehicle on hoist, rmv spare tire and carrier, disc oxy sensor, rmv exhaust, rmv inner fender panels, disc antenna grd strap, rmv all rear lamps, rmv screws securing bottom edge of fascia to energy absorber pad, rmv nuts from right + left vert retainer, rmv frame extension bolts, loosen 4 remaining frame ext bolts, pull fuel tank and frame asmbly rearward pushing cover outward, rmv tank straps and rmv tank. Rmv everything being reused on new tank.
That's why you need a manual. With pictures and diagrams.

Thank you Jimmymack that seams to be the way I am proceeding since I don't have the manuals. But I will start shopping for them now for sure.

This may help.  This is right from the 1986 Factory manual, should be similar for 1985.
