I knew better. Sorry. Here are photos I just took. First is from the passenger side, looking beyond the accumulator for the A/C. Second photo is from the driver's side, it's behind the fan motor. Third photo gives detail about the pulley surface behind the frisbee -- it is bolted to the water pump pulley. I am horrified, however, to see how much my various pulleys wobble. I have put 3800 miles onto the car with all of this wobbling, but now wonder if perhaps I am gambling too much by removing the frisbee before I deal with the wobbly pulleys. One of the reasons I got a good price on my 2001 Coupe was because the "buyer's guides" all warn of the C5 and C6 malady -- the wobbling harmonic balancer, which mine had. Since I was already in auto shop class, I figured I would deal with it in class, which I did. $200 instead of $2000! And extra points for auto shop! Even in its condition, that balancer wobbled a lot less than these pulleys! I am going to be a bit more careful before I remove the frisbee after all.
Thanks for the pics...!!! 👍
I would certainly look into getting the wobble out of those pulleys before embarking on an extended trek. Or even short ones (especially of the 1/4 mile variety!).
